Refer to the guidance titled CDC "Evaluating Patients for Smallpox". If a specimen cannot be ruled out for smallpox or other poxviruses, or if there is a suspected adverse reaction to a smallpox vaccination, contact Epidemiology On Call at (919) 733-3419 for consultation. If testing is approved, contact the BTEP Unit Duty Phone 24/7 at (919) 807-8600.

For Suspect Mpox Clade II, specimens may be sent to NCSLPH without approval from Epidemiology.
